Mobile Engineer (Android)[Remote]

Peatix is looking for a Mobile Engineer to join our team. You’ll work with product managers and designers to maintain and implement features for our Android app.

WHO DO WE NEED?

  • Peatix Product Engineering is a distributed team supporting a popular and complex service.
  • Mobile Engineers at Peatix drive the development of Peatix's Android and iOS native apps.
  • We want you for the skills you want to hone as much as for the skills you bring to the table.
  • You expect to be guided and supported rather than micromanaged.
  • If you relish the ever-changing landscape of product development and take pride in, and responsibility for, your work then drop us a line: we want to meet you.

What you'll do

  • Write robust, maintainable code for Peatix's mobile native apps. The app is written in Java, and we plan to migrate to Kotlin over time.
  • This role is focussed on the Android app, but we encourage engineers to work together across platforms. The iOS app is written in Swift.
  • Work with backend engineers to design appropriate APIs for the mobile native apps to interact with.
  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the codebase, as well as refactor and improve it.
  • Contribute technical knowledge to conversations about the direction of Peatix's mobile native apps.
  • Review code developed by the mobile native apps team.
  • Design and create systems to develop, test, deploy, and monitor code.
  • Provide emergency support (service outages, etc.) if required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • You'll be working with a distributed team, so there is an emphasis on being a capable verbal and written communicator.
  • You can communicate in business-level English or above.
  • You have the ability to empathize and work with a diverse range of colleagues.
  • You have experience and confidence building native applications for Android in Java.

Bonuses

  • Bonuses are bonuses ... we want you to apply even if you don't have bonus experience.
  • You have experience working with Git and/or GitHub.
  • You have experience designing and writing tests.
  • You're familiar with Android development best practices and app architecture patterns.
  • You have worked with Kotlin.
  • You have experience developing iOS applications.
  • You have experience designing APIs.
  • You have experience with Perl or JavaScript. Peatix has historically been built with Perl and new services are built in JavaScript, but they will not be the day-to-day languages that you use for your work.
  • You can communicate in conversational level Japanese or above.

Location

  • You can work remotely from almost anywhere, though we’ll look favorably on candidates that are located where Peatix already has team members.
  • Peatix has offices in Tokyo, Singapore, and Kuala Lumpur. If you’re located in those cities, you’re welcome to work in the office.
  • You'll be working with team members in Australia, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and the United States.
  • Who is Peatix

Peatix is a global event registration platform that provides event organizers with powerful tools to create, promote, manage and sell out events of all sizes. Launched in 2011 in Japan, Peatix is now headquartered in New York and has expanded into Singapore and Malaysia.

We will continue to be a company that embraces diversity and look forward to applications from people from various backgrounds and lifestyles.
